  • Basilica Cistern — A sixth-century Roman water cistern, lit theatrically, under the street.
  • Grand Bazaar — Four thousand shops under one roof, and a lot of practised salesmanship.
  • Spice Bazaar — Smaller, denser and more useful than the Grand Bazaar.
  • Dolmabahçe Palace — The late-Ottoman answer to Versailles, on the waterfront.
