Five things that make the rest of this page make sense — how the region is laid out and what actually decides a trip here.
Two cities in one
Antalya is a working Turkish city wrapped around a Roman harbour — and a 40 km strip of resort hotels. Most independent travellers want Kaleiçi for three nights and day-trip to beaches or ruins, not the other way around.
Kaleiçi is walkable; everything else needs a ride
The old town fits in an afternoon on the map but deserves two slow evenings. Beaches, Düden falls and Perge all sit outside the walls — budget for taxis, tours or the tram to Konyaaltı.
Shoulder season is the point
May and October give you warm enough sea for a swim and cool enough evenings for rooftop dinner in the old town. July and August push heat, prices and package-tour density to levels that make Perge miserable at noon.
The coast is not a quick add-on from Cappadocia
There is no direct hop from central Anatolia. Most routes go back through Istanbul or a long bus — plan Antalya as its own leg or fly home from AYT.
All-inclusive resorts are a different product
Belek and Lara mega-hotels work for families who want pools and transfers. They are poor bases for Kaleiçi evenings and ruin days unless you rent a car.
