Pairings that work — and two that don't
Choosing cities is really choosing combinations, because the flight map between them is not what the road map suggests.

Istanbul + Cappadocia
The classic. History and landscape, one short domestic flight apart, and they feel nothing like each other.

Istanbul + Antalya
City then coast, with a direct flight between them. The easiest pairing logistically.

Cappadocia + Antalyaawkward
No quick direct hop — you route back through Istanbul or take a nine-hour bus. Add Istanbul in the middle rather than fighting it.

Istanbul + Izmir/Ephesus
Underrated. Classical ruins plus a relaxed seafront city, and cheaper than the Cappadocia version.

Common questions
Which Turkish city should I visit first?+
Istanbul, almost without exception. It is the main international gateway, it has the deepest range of things to do, and it is the only one of these cities that works as a standalone trip.
How many cities can I fit in ten days?+
Three, comfortably. Four is possible and starts to feel like packing rather than travelling, because every move costs you most of a day once you account for check-out, transfer and check-in.
Do I need to fly between cities?+
For anything over about five hours by road, yes — which includes Istanbul to Cappadocia and Istanbul to the coast. Intercity buses are genuinely comfortable and good value on shorter legs.
